Zoom Fibre, a local rapidly growing telecommunications network operator, has connected Laerskool Middelburg to their high-speed fibre internet services free of charge for life.

While the school has enjoyed connectivity in the past, the upgrade to the high-speed fibre services now equips 60 staff members, with well over 120 connected devices, with a 1 Gigabit per second line. The partnership between Zoom Fibre and Laerskool Middelburg not only transforms the administrative challenges the teachers have faced in the past, but creates an environment for enhanced teaching methods to be deployed across the school.

Laerskool Middelburg is planning to utilise the fixed-fibre connection to complete a systematic overhaul of their current online Learning Management System, as teachers now have the option to use cloud-based solutions to create and collaborate in real time. Enabling teachers to create static and interactive video lessons as well as testing the skills of the benefitting learners with quizzes that are self-marked, improving the speed at which learners receive feedback and information.

“Run amongst Giants in a field of fierce competition and you might find yourself rising to the occasion. In contrast, stand in a bed of wilting flowers and you will soon see yourself turn to compost for the seeds of the next generation who are hungry for growth. The youth at our school are hungry for growth. This phenomenal partnership extends beyond the classroom for us, as it enables the youth, we support within our school to own their tomorrow,” says Mr. DeWet de Clercq, Laerskool Middelburg IT Director.

The provision of the 1 Gigabit per second line from Zoom Fibre will benefit the school with fast, reliable internet for both the teachers and the learners impacting on all learners in the Middelburg community. The added ease of fast connectivity will also support the school to further transform their administration capabilities, turning most administration tasks from nothing more than a sluggish pen driven crawl, to be rendered in a fraction of the time.

“Zoom Fibre is a people-first business and we strongly believe that our success is measured by the success of those around us. Our brave vision is to create digital communities in South Africa, and Africa. We understand that internet access has become a significant necessity in schools across the country in order to enhance and grow our society through our current leaners, enabling future leaders. This engagement today is not a singular moment, but a journey to help our teachers, and our future leaders, gain access through the right tools to the right platforms- enabling meaningful digital inclusion across all the communities we serve to usher in a better future for our youth,” says Zoom Fibre CEO Mohammad Manjra.

Zoom Fibre is working with a variety of Internet Service Providers across the country to connect 100 schools by the end of May 2022. This ambitious target is a third of the way of being achieved, with close to forty schools already connected across the country to date through this programme.
