The RCT 14″ Notebook is a compact (332.6 x 223.5 x 21.5mm) and lightweight (1.39 kg) laptop that is powered by Intel’s 10th gen (10nm) Core i3-1005G1 dual-core processor and provides a competent Windows 10 Home experience for corporate users, educators, office workers, and varsity students.
The notebook boasts a full HD (1920×1080) display that packs great viewing angles, good colours, and plenty of detail. While it is suitably bright, the glossy display is quite reflective so is not the best to use outdoors. The audio experience accompanying the visuals is fair with a suitably loud sound on offer but the sound experience does get quite tinny at the highest volume.
Performance is adequate whilst navigating the OS and web, checking email, and employing productivity applications such as Microsoft Teams or video calling apps like Zoom or Skype. The battery and CPU pairing means battery life is good despite the portability of the laptop as you can easily make it through the first four episodes of the new season of Snowpiercer on Netflix for instance.
Also onboard is 4GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM that is unfortunately not upgradeable, 64GB eMM storage (M.2 SATA3 SSD expansion slot), a par for the course 720p webcam, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, and a limited amount of ports including a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, and HDMI.
All in all the notebook is suitable for use by corporates for their staff, or for the employees of home-based offices or small offices, first-time laptop users or students, or even elderly users looking for a productivity tool that can also double as a portable media consumption device for apps such as Showmax.
It goes for a recommended retail price of R7999 from https://www.rctzone.co.za/.
