The pocket-and-budget-friendly follow-up to the SPARK 10C is TECNO’s SPARK 20C, which is equally as easy on the wallet while also offering more of a spec punch in this highly competitive weight class. It boasts a 6.6″ HD+ Hole punch display with an adequate 720*1612 resolution, which may not be near flagship-level specs but still allows for a pleasant multimedia consumption experience.
Equally large is the 5000mAh battery that not only enables the device to easily make it through a full day’s usage but also packs 18W Fast Charging. Beyond the battery life and visuals, the accompanying sound from the dual speakers is also quite loud but can be a bit tinny at the highest volumes so topping out at around 70% volume is recommended for the best experience.
Helping you smoothly but not so snappily navigate Android 13 (and TECNO’s HiOS v13 overlay) is an Octa-Core (Helio G36) processor that is the only part of the smartphone that feels a bit low rent in that is definitely not the snappiest mobile chip we’ve tested and seems to take a perceptive knock in performance when multitasking. This might also be attributable to the fact that this smartphone only has 4GB of RAM that is expandable to 8 GB by tapping into the 128 GB onboard storage.
Performing better is the camera experience, 50MP+AI-CAM with Dual Flash producing good shots in the day-time and usable ones in challenging lighting conditions, with the same being said of the 8MP shelfie shooter with Dual Flash.
Also aboard is dual-SIM capabilities which will make globetrotters as well as deal hunters happy, with the latter being able to use a network SIM for calls with the best operator rates and the best operator SIM for data in the second slot for instance. What you won’t get is 5G but this is not a trainsmash as 5G is definitely not that widely available across Mzansi as of yet.
All in all, this is a very decent midrange device that can be widely acquired across SA’s retail outlets for around R3000 from Incredible Connection or R3500 at Edgars, or about R2900 at PEP. So it is definitely worth shopping around for the best deal if you want to make the TECNO SPARK 20C yours.
