Samsung pulled the wrapps off of its new Galaxy S24 in January already, and by so doing introduced the world to Galaxy AI capabilities such as Live Translate that delivers two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native app whilst on-device AI keeps conversations completely private, as well as Interpreter, which delivers live conversations that can be instantly translated on a split-screen view so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. It even works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.
Beyond this dollip of AI features injection, the Galaxy S24 also comes in a form factor many users prefer above phablets for which you need Victor Matfield sized rugby forward hands to use one-handed easily. It measures 147.0 x 70.6 x 7.6 and tipping the smartphone scales at a jeans pocket friendly 167g. Despite the demoir sized frame you still get a fabulous 6.2″ 2340 x 1080 (FHD+) AMOLED that can refresh itself at a frequency of 120 Hz to the delight of mobile gamers everywhere.
Also onboard is a 4000 mAh battery that can still get you through a working day, 5G connectivity and dual-SIM capability, IP68 water resistant rating, and smooth, snappy performance whilst gaming, multitasking or simply navigating OneUI-flavoured Android 14 courtesy of its blistering Deca-Core processor, coupled with 8GB of RAM.
On the optics front, you won’t be dissappointed thanks to the 50.0 MP + 10.0 MP + 12.0 MP arrangements that captures stellar shots even in low-light conditions, slow-motion 240fps movies at full HD resolution plus UHD 8K (7680 x 4320) videos that look great at 30fps. Shelfie shooters will also appreciate the 12.0 MP front-facing snapper that takes gorgeous self portraits and is very handy for video calls.
All in all, this is our favourite pocketable Android that costs an RRP of R20 000, but rival devices to check out include Xiaomi’s 14T (R19 000), HUAWEI’s steller photography king (R20k), the Pura 70 Pro, and Apple’s iPhone 15 (R20k).
