As part of Karpowership SA’s environmental authorisation, the company has initiated an enhanced process of additional public consultations to ensure all stakeholders fully understand the benefits these projects will bring to the country.
Karpowership SA’s detailed and comprehensive environmental processes will ensure that all perceived gaps in the initial environmental impact assessment (EIA) of its operations in Coega, Richards Bay and Saldanha Bay are addressed for implementation of the projects that will ultimately maximize economic benefits to the communities in the project locations.
Meaningful engagement with the public is an essential part of this process. Karpowership SA fully supports the independent environmental assessment practitioner (EAP) facilitating open communication with all interested stakeholders through public participation public meetings in various languages on November 21, 23 and 25 in Saldanha, Richards Bay and Coega, respectively.
“We remain committed to adding 1,220MW of power to the South African grid through our Coega, Richards Bay and Saldanha Bay projects and engaging with the local communities to hear their concerns,’’ said Karpowership SA Director Mehmet Katmer. ‘’Karpowership has a solution to South Africa’s energy crisis that’s flexible, will reduce load shedding and will bring huge economic benefits to the local community.’’
Ahead of the public participation process, draft environmental reports containing more than 30 independent specialist scientific assessments of each project site will be published. This will give interested parties the opportunity to submit comments.
