Goodyear has pushed the boundaries of tyre technology and development for over 125 years. Now, with the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, a new chapter of Goodyear’s innovation is in full swing.

Today, Goodyear’s latest generation tyres, including Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, UltraGrip Performance 3 and Vector 4Seasons Gen-3, are designed for use on the latest generation of EVs, with a range of technologies to cater for the demands of electrified vehicles as well as internal combustion engine-powered models. This is achieved by optimising the tyre’s structure, in combination with developing innovative compounds and tuning the sidewall design for greater aerodynamic efficiency.

Goodyear EV-Ready logo

Goodyear’s entire current range of tyres has been meticulously designed to meet the specific demands of both EV and ICE vehicle drivers. Recent additions to the range also feature the EV-Ready logo, launched in 2023, in a prominent position on their sidewall. The logo will appear in all communications and Goodyear systems to facilitate customer identification, whether or not the tyre has the physical logo on its sidewall.

An EV converts much more of its input energy into usable motion than an ICE vehicle, which magnifies the effect of rolling resistance, hence making it a much larger factor on overall vehicle efficiency. Goodyear’s range of tyres is developed with efficiency in mind without sacrificing performance, helping drivers to achieve greater mileage and efficiency with every journey.

Goodyear has developed a suite of state-of-the art technologies to help accelerate electric mobility

Goodyear’s SoundComfort Technology is a cutting-edge feature designed to reduce interior noise created by tyre and road interaction in quiet EVs. This technology has the potential to reduce interior noise by up to 50%1, to help ensure a quiet, comfortable journey in an electric vehicle.

Moreover, the added weight and increased torque of EVs can lead to faster tyre wear compared to traditional combustion vehicles. Goodyear’s Mileage Plus Technology is designed to offer drivers the opportunity to help maximize the life of their tyres, and travel further with each set.

Goodyear ‘Electric Drive Technology’ for OE

Goodyear is the OE supplier to around 50% of European-made EVs2, underlining the confidence that OEMs have in Goodyear technology. To identify specific Original Equipment (OE) tyres for EVs and PHEVs, Goodyear has introduced Goodyear ‘Electric Drive Ready’ (EDR). This means the tyre features a customised range of technologies to cater for the specific needs of that car manufacturer for a specific vehicle, such as combination of high load capacity, specific handling performance and other criteria.

Ben Glesener, Senior Director Technology Consumer Tyres, Goodyear EMEA, commented: “Goodyear’s product portfolio has been designed to help maximise performance and efficiency for all drivers on the road. EVs have accelerated the demands on tyre manufacturers to develop products that meet the evolving needs of OEMs and drivers.

“As we witness the popularity of EVs, Goodyear’s product portfolio offers an ideal fitment for a broad range of drivers, with innovations that ensure Goodyear remains at the forefront of the industry.”
