Bolt, the e-hailing service available in more than 35 locations across South Africa, has introduced Bolt Comfort, designed for more discerning passengers.

Passengers can expect a more premium service when hailing a Bolt Comfort ride, with drivers in this ride-type only eligible if they are driving a 2015 or newer model sedan or SUV that offers more comfort and spaciousness on a ride.

Drivers in this category have solidified their reputations for providing consistent excellent  service to Bolt passengers, with a minimum rating of 4.7 out of 5, over at least 250 trips, required for them to access this ride-type – higher than the 4.5 ratings that is expected of drivers on other ride-types.

Typically, these drivers enjoy higher ratings because they accept trips quickly and arrive at the collection point timeously, offering passengers the kind of reliability they expect when navigating a business day crammed full of appointments and meetings.

Drivers prefer driving passengers on this ride type because they earn more on Bolt Comfort than other categories, with a minimum fee of R30 per ride. Despite drivers’ higher earnings, passengers still pay less on Bolt Comfort than they would on similar ride types offered by competing e-hailing platforms.

The Bolt Comfort ride type is only available via in-app payments, which is ideal for passengers who prefer paying for their trips via card. It offers an accessible record of trips taken to claim expenses for refunds within their company’s reimbursement framework.

Businesses are likely to specify Bolt Comfort for their staff and executives, as the ride-type offers a comfortable and spacious option that is not as costly as Bolt Premium. For example, a trip that costs R31 on Bolt Comfort provides more room than a similar trip on Bolt Go that would cost R21 – however it costs significantly less than that same trip would on Bolt Premium, at R52.

“Bolt Comfort offers an affordable yet comfortable option for discerning commuters looking for the reliability of a highly rated driver,” says Gareth Taylor, Regional Manager for Southern Africa at Bolt. “This new offering expands the range of options available to Bolt customers, who can choose from several different ride types to suit their needs and budgets, with options including Bolt Go, Bolt Premium, Bolt Comfort, Bolt Women Only, Bolt XL, and Bolt Van.”
