Having morphed from a one-day only event, which mostly happened physically in-store, Black Friday has become a month-long period of deals and special offers. Advancements in and more uptake of online shopping have continued to change consumer behaviour, with spending during this time shooting the lights out each and every year.
2023 saw the highest spending on Black Friday weekend and record foot traffic into stores, and Black Friday 2024 is shaping up to be much of the same.
Innovative technology brand TECNO, which will be offering many special offers during the Black Friday period (starting from 25 November, so be on the lookout) offers some tips to shoppers on how to make the most of the deals without emptying their wallets completely.
- Set a Budget
While it’s tempting to splash cash on Black Friday, especially with FOMO on great deals, it’s important to determine how much you can afford to spend and stick to that budget to avoid impulse buys.
- Prioritise Your Purchases
Write down items you genuinely need or want and prioritise them. Stick to your list to avoid being swayed by unplanned purchases.
- Check if Deals are Actually Deals
Just because a deal says that it’s a saving of X number of rands, or such a percentage off, doesn’t mean that it is necessarily true. Check prices ahead of time to see what is actually a good deal.
- Shop Online
Many retailers offer the same deals online as in-store. Shopping online can also prevent impulse buys that might happen when you’re physically in a store. Plus, it’s a lot more comfortable shopping in your home away from the crowds!
- Check Different Retailers
Don’t settle for the first deal you see. Check multiple retailers for the same product. Sometimes, different retailers will have the same item at varied prices.
- Don’t Get Caught Up in FOMO
Fear of missing out can lead to overspending. Remember that there will always be sales in future and it’s okay to skip items that don’t fit into your budget or that are wants rather than needs.
- Evaluate Before you Buy
Before purchasing an item, ask yourself if you really need the item, how often you’ll use it and most importantly whether the deal is great value for money.
- Don’t Forget About Cyber Monday
Some items, particularly from the electronics and technology categories, may have better deals on Cyber Monday (the Monday following Black Friday weekend). Don’t rush into purchases on the weekend without considering this possibility.
Already-Announced Price Drops
Ahead of announcing any Black Friday deals, TECNO already revealed reduced pricing for smartphones in its latest SPARK 20 Series range. These include the SPARK 20, SPARK 20P, SPARK 20C, and SPARK GO 2024. The most was a R3,000 saving on the SPARK 20 from Edgars, JET, Mr Price, and TFG. Vodacom is also offering many double deals, bringing even more value for shoppers looking for two phones instead of just one.
TECNO, along with its sister brand itel, will be unveiling a complete list of Black Friday deals from all its retail partners on 25 November so be on the lookout for those.
