The Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN team is ready for the official start of the 2020 Formula 1 season, hot on the heels of Alfa Romeo’s 110th anniversary on the 24th June. The Austrian Grand Prix marks the start of the season, delayed until 5 July due to the health emergency.

The brand’s history is deeply linked to Formula 1, Alfa Romeo winning the first ever Grand Prix and the inaugural world championship in 1950. Nino Farina steered the Alfa Romeo Gran Premio Tipo 158 “Alfetta” to victory that year, a feat repeated in 1951 by Juan Manuel Fangio in the Alfetta 159.

The iconic GTAm logo on Antonio Giovinazzi’s racing suit

Now the legend continues with world champion Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi at the steering wheels of their C39 models. The iconic “GTAm” badge will be worn proudly on the Italian driver’s suit from the restart of Grand Prix racing as a tribute to the new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA. Alfa’s latest limited edition model was conceived for the brand’s 110th anniversary, representing even more performance from the most iconic model of the Alfa Romeo range.

The technical specification of the Giulia GTA and GTAm derive straight from the technological skills acquired by Sauber Engineering during its long activity in Formula 1. The aerodynamics are developed specifically to improve downforce, increasing stability and balance, especially at high speeds. These studies have influenced the active front splitter, the side skirts and the rear spoiler, as well as significant work underneath the car and the rear diffuser.

Exhilarating performances spanning history and future

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is technically and conceptually inspired by the 1965 Giulia GTA: the “Gran Turismo Alleggerita”, developed by Autodelta from the Giulia Sprint GT, achieved competition success all over the world. The Giulia GTA is based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio and is fitted with a more powerful version of the Alfa Romeo 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo engine with 540 hp. With its extensive use of ultra-light materials, it benefits from a weight reduction of 100 kg compared to the Giulia Quadrifoglio, achieving an exceptional best-in-class weight/power ratio of 2.82 kg/hp.
